Puky Push Scooter Review: Safe and Stable Scooter for Toddlers

Selecting your toddler’s first scooter can be trickier than parents might initially realize. A lot of scooters look adorable in pictures but feel cheap and flimsy when held in-store. Others are overweight, overly-fast or designed for slightly older kids just starting to learn balance and coordination.

Because of this, I was intrigued to learn about the Puky Push Scooter.
Known for manufacturing sturdy kids’ transportation products in Europe, Puky is a popular brand when it comes to balance bikes and entry-level scooters. Their Push Scooter targets toddlers starting at around 2 years old with quality, stability and confidence in mind.

I’ve spent some time reviewing its design, specs, and user reviews so that you can see why the Puky Push Scooter is one of the most popular kick scooters for toddlers on the market.

Here’s my full Puky Push Scooter review.

First Impressions

My initial impression of the Puky Push Scooter was how solid it is.

Many scooters for toddlers are flimsy and made from thin plastic that feels cheap and unsafe. This one feels much better. It just feels solid. The frame looks well built, the deck has nice traction, and the wheels are chunky compared to a lot of other models.

It feels like it was built by experts that really understand how small children play and learn.

The overall design is really thoughtful for little kids too. The scooter is relatively low to the ground. This makes it easier for toddlers to get on and off without feeling unbalanced. You’d be surprised how much that matters.

For really young kids, having confidence goes a long way.

Build Quality and Materials

As you’d expect from Puky products they are well engineered.

The quality of materials gives it that feel that it will last years of abuse. The reinforced frame feels solid but doesn’t feel too heavy for toddlers either.

My favourite bit is the rubberised footboard with Puky embossed into it. This gives much more grip than a flat smooth plastic deck you’ll find on cheaper models.

Better grip means less chance of slipping – especially useful when they can’t decide where to put their feet!

Same goes for the non-slip handles. Toddlers love grabbing on tight to handlebars when they first learn. Softer and grippier handles are much nicer.

Worth mentioning are the extra-wide tyres. Wider wheels aid balancing and help smooth out bumpy surfaces like cracks in the pavement or tiled floors.

All in all this scooter feels like a much higher quality option than most other budget scooter options sold online.

Three-Wheel Stability Makes a Huge Difference

On its surface the illuminated wheels seem like a gimmicky feature.
Actually they provide some fun and visibility.

Children love light up wheels. It makes the scooter feel “cool” and they want to ride more. Meanwhile the lights add visibility when riding outside at night or in the shadows.

The wheels light up on their own when spinning so there are no batteries to recharge or replace.

That is a helpful convenience.

Height-Adjustable Handlebar

Extremely important feature for longevity.

Kids grow like crazy. It can be the case that a scooter fits a child like a glove one day, and is suddenly uncomfortable just a few months later.

The tilting handlebar really helps to lengthen the time you can use the scooter. Puky claims children between approx. 85 cm and 110 cm in height can ride this scooter.

This ranges quite a big age group.

The mechanism itself feels well built and easy to operate. The handlebar doesn’t wiggle around once you lock it in place.

Height also plays a role in good riding position. The children won’t have to lean forward as much and can stand straighter.

They should thus be more comfortable and safe during longer rides.

Folding Mechanism for Parents

An aspect that goes unnoticed is the folding system.

It didn’t take long for us to see why these scooters are foldable.

If you’re taking it to the park, storing it in your trunk, or hauling it into a coffee shop, nothing beats a folding scooter.

This scooter folds down pretty fast and easy as well.

It isn’t the lightest ride when compared to other scooters, but folding it up makes transportation a breeze.

Great for apartment or small house living.

Real-World Riding Experience

How does it handle in real world situations? It rides great for new riders. Steering is precise without being overly sensitive. The larger wheels roll over small obstacles well. It is quite stable and doesn’t feel like it’s going to tip when my toddler decides to make a sudden turn. One thing that stood out to me when reading customer reviews is how frequently parents refer to confidence. Kids seem to feel safe on this scooter almost immediately. That is important because if kids become frustrated early on they will quickly lose interest in learning new physical skills. The lower deck height also contributes to kids feeling more secure. They can push themselves off with ease without feeling like they’re mounting something tall and wobbly. All of this combines to create a much more enjoyable learning process.

Customer Feedback

Lots of Happy Parents And Grandparents Have Shared Honest Feedback

As for real world reviews for the Puky Push Scooter, parents and grandparents seem to love it.

One grandmother wrote that her granddaughter begged her for “this scooter” for her birthday and she took right up riding it afterwards. They said it “makes a very stable impression.”

This verified review from Germany simply says:

“It’s very stable. Rolls great.”

That review basically sums this scooter up.

A different buyer praised “good Puky quality” and how their granddaughter “has fun with it and gets along very well.”

I like that a lot. When it comes to beginner scooters, they have to feel intuitive for kids. If they don’t understand how balance or steering works they quickly lose interest.

It sounds like the Puky dodges that issue.

Safety Features

Safety DEFINITELY seems like a priority.

Several design aspects combine to make it easy to learn on:

  • Tricycles offers stability
  • Super-wide tyres
  • Rubberized anti-slip deck
  • Non-slip handles
  • Low deck height for easy mounting/dismounting
  • Steering geometry designed for stability

The switchable straight run also helps with beginners. It prevents kids from making sweeping turns until they have basic steering down pat.

That should help avoid sudden tipping or clumsy falling as they learn to ride.

As always, I’d highly recommend a helmet for kids riding scooters outside.

Who Is This Scooter Best Suited For?

I would say that the Puky Push Scooter is most ideal for toddlers and preschoolers who are newer to riding scooters.

Specifically, I think it works especially well for:

  • First time riders
  • Nervous or cautious toddlers
  • Parents who want long-lasting durability
  • Grandparents looking to buy a quality birthday gift
  • Families who value safety over speed

It’s incredibly stable platform and design that instills confidence make it perfect for younger kids.

What Could Puky Improve?

As with any product there are small downsides. Here are a couple things that keep this scooter from being a 10/10 in my book.

First off, it is a little heavier than some of the uber-lightweight toddler scooters out there. That helps with how sturdy it feels, but parents who will be carrying it for long distances may find that extra weight noticeable.

Second, the folding function is very convenient but doesn’t allow the scooter to get as small as some other more travel-friendly scooters.

Finally, kids who outgrow the novelty of learning to ride quickly may want a more fast-paced or nimble 2-wheeler scooter as they mature.

All that being said, it’s still great for the intended demographic.

Overall Rating: 4.5 / 5

Puky Push, scooter for children from 2 years, height-adjustable handlebars, foldable and compact, extra wide tyres for more s

The Puky Push Scooter ticks all the boxes that a toddler scooter should. It feels solid, secure and easy to ride for little ones. Beginners feel confident thanks to the three-wheel design and it grows with your child with the adjustable handlebar, lasting them years.

It isn’t the most affordable scooter but the quality of build and design focused on safety give it a premium feel that will last.

We Recommend…

…for toddlers aged 2-5, first-time scooter riders, parents who value safety and stability over everything else and those after an indoor and outdoor scooter.

Don’t Buy…

…if your kids are older and want something faster with the ability to do tricks. Or, if you’re after an ultralight travel scooter that whole family can take with you on holiday. Also, if your kid is already riding a two-wheel scooter with confidence.

Final Verdict

A major reason that the Puky Push Scooter works is because it gets what’s important right.

Safety. Balance. Comfort. Confidence.

Nothing flappy or batter-pack-required here.

Its three-wheel design handles well and feels stable. The telescoping handlebar adds years of usefulness. The illuminated wheels add some fun-factor. And the construction quality feels like it can take a beating.

Above all else, kids love riding it too.

Kids loving it and it feeling stable are the two key factors parents care about when they’re buying their child’s first scooter.

If you’re in the market for a quality first scooter for your toddler, the Puky Push Scooter is a solid choice.
